“Blue Monday” The busiest day for divorce lawyers?
Blue Monday is the name given to the day which falls on the third Monday of January, and is said to be the most depressing day of the year, with Christmas bills starting to come in, gloomy dark nights, and post-Christmas blues?
The term was first declared in 2005 when psychologist when Cliff Arnall pinpointed the most miserable day of the year. His formula factored in weather conditions, debt from holiday spending, the amount of time since Christmas, and failed New Year’s resolutions.
But how does that impact divorce rates? This time of year is the busiest for divorce lawyers. Many people, especially with children, wait until Christmas is over to enable the children to have one last nice Christmas with both parents. Couples also consider January to be a fresh start and the chance to make changes to their lives, which often includes divorce or separation.
Divorce doesn’t have to be depressing. It is of course a very sad and difficult time for many people, but here at Dootsons, our family law solicitors will ensure that we support clients every step of the way, personally, and professionally, and strive to achieve the very best outcome for them.
We appreciate that people fight to save their marriages for the sake of their children. However, over years of experience, we also see how unhappy marriages can adversely impact children, and, after the initial shock and upset, it is very often in a child’s best interests to have two happier separated parents than two unhappy parents together. Here’s how you can best support your children through the divorce process.
If you are considering divorce or separation, please do not hesitate to contact us to speak to one of our specialised family solicitors.
